What We’re Drinking—and Doing—This Summer

June 17, 2025

Summer in Maine is short—but we know how to make the most of it. Whether it’s a chilled glass of wine after a beach day or a crisp spritz on the porch, there’s nothing better than pairing great bottles with great moments.

To celebrate the season, we asked our team two simple questions:
What’s your favorite bottle we carry—and how do you love spending summer in Maine?

Amber – Marketing & Sales Support

Favorite Bottle: HP-351
Why They Love It: I love the size and shape of this bottle. Tall, skinny and slender.  Although small capacity at 375mL it still packs a punch and has the perfect height. It’s a bottle meant for a special type of wine.
Favorite Maine Summer Activity:
My favorite summer activity is whitewater rafting in The Forks, Maine. My cousin guides us down the Kennebec with all of our kids, and we have a blast. No cell phone reception up there…

Sam– Account Manager

Favorite Bottle: HP-901
Why They Love It:
I love Sparkling wine and this bottle shape is super unique.

Favorite Maine Summer Activity: Oh this is hard, I have two:

#1-The Beach – We go to a beach that my 2 + 4 year old can get ankle deep and find hermit crabs. It’s a very quiet, beautiful family beach.

#2-Little Sebago Lake – We have a family camp on Little Sebago and take out the boat as much as we can in the Spring – Fall. It’s a gorgeous Maine lake with sand bars, loons and an ice cream boat.

Tucker– Account Manager

Favorite Bottle: 20L Hybrid Keg
Why They Love It:
It’s a lightweight keg, what’s not to love about that?!? And with 10-liter kegs, you could bring one on the boat, to the fire or cookout. Petainer kegs are a sign of a good time.

Favorite Maine Summer Activity:
Playing golf. If not that, on Sebago Lake with my friends.

TJ– President

Favorite Bottle: HP-10
Why They Love It:
I’ve always liked the wide neck of the HP-10.

Favorite Maine Summer Activity:
Camping with family and friends.

Danielle– VP of Operations

Favorite Bottle: HP-903
Why They Love It:
It’s all about that base!

Favorite Maine Summer Activity:
Walking with my dogs – we only get a few nice months need to soak in the beauty God created!

Mary– Account Manager

Favorite Bottle: HP-380
Why They Love It:
Tiny bubbles in a small bottle are a perfect aperitif. Allegra!

Favorite Maine Summer Activity:
Outdoor adventures along the coast!

Jenn– Operations & Logistics Specialist

Favorite Bottle: HP-Kobe
Why They Love It:
She’s a beauty – short, cylindrical, and a curvy finish. I definitely would buy spirits in this bottle. It’s shape certainly makes a bold statement!

Favorite Maine Summer Activity:
THE BEACH!

Krista– Operations & Logistics Specialist

hp-13 in blue hock bottle

Favorite Bottle: HP-13
Why They Love It:
I love the height and slim design, and the blue reminds me of sea glass hunting with my mom back in the good ol’ days.

Favorite Maine Summer Activity:
Going to my family beach in Rockland and eating a local favorite – Wasses hot dogs!

Branden– Account Manager

Favorite Bottle: HP-900
Why They Love It:
I love its versatility of being able to be used for multiple beverages across many industries including wine, beer, cider and more.

Favorite Maine Summer Activity: Renting a boat and exploring Maine’s beautiful coastline with family and friends.

What the ‘Hock’???

February 10, 2025

If you’ve ever sipped a crisp Riesling or a luscious Gewürztraminer, chances are it came from a hock bottle—that tall, elegant bottle with gently sloping shoulders. But have you ever wondered where the name hock comes from? And, more importantly, can we make some wine puns out of it? Let’s dive in!

Where Does the Name “Hock” Come From?

The term “hock” is derived from Hochheim am Main, a German town famous for its white wines. British wine merchants in the 18th and 19th centuries began referring to wines from Hochheim as “Hock”, and over time, the name stuck—not just for wines from Hochheim, but for German and even Alsatian white wines in general.

The HP-13 Hock Evolution is a tall, slim European glass bottle with sleek, sloped shoulders, offering a touch of elegance and sophistication

Hock Bottles: More Than Just a Name

Hock bottles, also called Rhine bottles, Mosel bottles, or Alsace bottles, are tall, slim, and designed to showcase delicate white wines. The shape isn’t just for looks—it helps preserve the wine’s aromas and crisp flavors while preventing excess oxygen exposure.

Of course, hock bottles also became associated with sweet, inexpensive wines in some circles, leading to their reputation as the go-to bottle for budget-friendly sippers. But whether you’re drinking high-end Riesling or light Rose, hock bottles hold a unique place in wine history.

Holding an HP-13 in champagne green up against these little flowers is a great way to show the beautiful shades it gives off!

Silly Hock Bottle Jokes & Puns

Why don’t hock bottles ever get into fights?
Because they always take the high road!

What did the Riesling say to the Gewürztraminer in the hock bottle?
“Stop being so sweet—you’re making me blush!”

Why did the wine bottle refuse to gossip?
It didn’t want to spill the Riesling!

What do you call a hock bottle that’s always late?
A procrasti-Riesling!

Why did the hock bottle go to therapy?
It had too many bottled-up emotions!

Hock Bottles: Tall, Elegant, and Full of Character

Whether you love them for their historical charm, sleek design, or their association with some of the world’s finest white wines, hock bottles deserve a toast. Next time you pour a glass from one, you can impress your friends with a little history—and a couple of wine puns!
